Daylight saving time: who uses it, and when does it change?

Daylight saving isn't universal. Here's which regions of the world move their clocks, and on what dates.

AD SPACE

Daylight saving time means moving the clock forward by an hour in spring for more evening daylight, then back in autumn.

Europe: the change happens on the last Sunday of March (forward) and the last Sunday of October (back), simultaneously across almost every EU country.

United States and Canada: the change happens on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November — different dates from Europe, which briefly shifts the usual offset between Europe and North America for a few weeks each year.

Who doesn't observe it? Most countries near the equator (little seasonal daylight variation), plus Russia, China, Japan, India, and nearly all of Africa and Asia.

Our world clock automatically applies each city's daylight saving rules, so there's nothing to calculate by hand.
